[This is a parody of Alphaville’s well-known (but somewhat riddle-like) Big in Japan. Because of my personality I have to remind myself that God is my ultimate security, not my bank, alarm system, not my burglar bars or ADT. A week or so ago I “confessed” to my God-sister that with all the driveway robberies in the area, I was becoming nervous of going out! As I remember, a day or so after that this parody “fell into place”, although I’d been wanting to write it for a while with very limited success.]

Hopeless sinner’s heart
While temptations fly around inside my head, I chase the wind
I had no illusions
That I’d ever satisfy the righteousness that You demand
You did what You did for me
Plain as history I see
You’ve restored my life and soul again;
That’s why You became a man.
I will hold onto your hand  always
It’s better to be safe in your hands.

“Yes, you’re safe in my hands, all right
Safe in my hands; hold tight
Safe in my hands and I’ll hold tight on to you
Safe in my hands, all right, pray and I’ll keep by your side
Things are better when you’re safe in my hands,
When you’re safe in my hands.”

Cover for my naked sin
Pardon for the wretched twisted man I know that I have been
I shall cling tight  onto You
I shall never swap  my faith in You for vain & novel things
You did what you did for me
Plain as history; now I see!
That’s why You became a man
I will hold onto Your hand  always
It’s better to be safe in Your hands

“Yes, you’re safe in my hands, all right
Safe in my hands; hold tight
Safe in my hands and I’ll hold tight on to you
Safe in my hands, all right ,pray and I’ll keep by your side
Things are better when you’re safe in my hands,
When you’re safe in my hands.”

Hold tight
Safe in His hands; all right
Safe in His hands; yes, He’ll hold tight on to you
Safe in His hands, all right, pray and He’ll keep by your side
Things are better when you’re safe in His hands,
Are you safe in His hands?

Are you safe in His hands?  Hold tight
Safe in His hands; all right
Safe in His hands; yes, He’ll hold tight on to you
Safe in His hands, all right, stay and He’ll keep by your side
Things are better when you’re safe in His hands,
I am safe in His hands!

[I very seldom get visual pictures, but this haiku is the result of one. In church the Sunday after I had written this, the sermon referred to Jesus taking the initiative in respect of  Peter’s restoration. I think it’s often the same in Salvation. Sometimes God takes the initiative by sending the right person to one, or by allowing some misfortune to come to us. Personally, I am so thankful that he sent the right person to me; this person has become like family.]

I stumbled Godwards:
On the cross already God
Was rushing to me!

Luke 15:20 So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way from home his father saw him, and his heart went out to him; he ran and hugged his son and kissed him.

You can read of Peter’s restoration in chap 20. (And you can understand why Peter was so keen to get to the tomb as well.)

Jesus took the initiative. Jesus restored. In God’s economy “broken” is NOT the same as “useless”!

I have a King is a parody ABBA’s I have a dream. This was written yesterday, on Resurrection Sunday 2012.

I have a King, whose praise I sing;
His death’s brought victory over Sin.
And he died in my place to atone my guilt;
Yes, it was for my sake that his blood was spilt.
I believe in Jesus;
I believe in all he’s done for me.
I believe in Jesus;
And I know that he has set me free:
I have a King who’s conquered Sin.

No fantasy, it’s history:
Salvation’s now reality:
And my destination makes pain worth the while;
Peering through the darkness I can see him smile.
I believe in Jesus;
I believe in all he’s done for me.
I believe in Jesus;
And I know that he has set me free:
I have a King who’s conquered Sin;
I have a King who’s conquered Sin

I have a King enthroned above
Who came to earth out of great love,
And he cast his glory totally aside;
Yes, he walked on this earth, and in my place he died:
I believe in Jesus;
Now he’s risen, and he’s glorified;
I believe in Jesus,
And I know that he has set me free:
I have a King who’s conquered Sin;
I have a King who’s conquered Sin.

John 3:16-18  For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. Philippians 2: 6-[Christ Jesus] though he existed in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, by looking like other men, and by sharing in human nature. He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross! As a result God exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow – in heaven and on earth and under the earth – and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

Hebr 4:14-15 Therefore since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. [Do you sometimes feel that life is a bit of a slog? A hell of a slog? We were not told it would be easy, and in the valley it probably seems worse. Jesus said: “I have told you this so that you will have peace by being united to me. The world will make you suffer. But be brave! I have defeated the world!” [John 16:33] The Bible is full of people who at some time or another felt the same. The Bible is full of everyday people like you and me: Thomas wanting evidence; Peter denying; David full of praise one moment, crying out in anguish the next.

A very dear friend often says, “I pray that the suffering/pain is not wasted.” Although I sometimes don’t like to admit it, human suffering can create space for Grace. That Grace can translate into power.]

[Moody Blues: Nights in white Satin]

Struggle’s the pattern, never seeming to end,
Crises unbidden disaster portend
I call on my Lover: I need you, my Friend
I long to discover what comfort you’ll send
‘Cause I need you, yes I need you
Oh how I need you!

My loving is soul-deep, and it’s your soul I see
You are forgiven and now you’re set free
Grace without limits – and it’s my power to give
Grace means no distance between you and me
‘Cause I love you, yes I love you
Oh how I love you!

Knights in white armour, taking on all the world,
May you go boldly, with banners unfurled
This is your moment, the truth is revealed
I am your helmet, and I am your shield
‘Cause I love you, yes I love you
Oh how I love you!

Then when it’s over, when your task is complete
You’ll come and sit with me, and join in my feast
Your armour unharnessed, my arms open wide
I’ll hold and embrace you to my wounded side
‘Cause I love you, yes I love you
Oh how I love you!
