[This is a parody of the well known song A New Day by Celine Dion.]

A new life in Him
A new life in Him

I’d been struggling for so long
For true freedom to come
From my guilt which had held me so strong
“Reach up and I will draw near.”

Through the darkness and through bad times
I’d felt that you’d disappeared,
Had enough of my sin and so left –
Never! – but that’s what I feared.

But now
I see the light of the Son
Oh, it’s almost blinding me
Yes, I believe!
I’ve been found by your Grace and your love

Let your Grace come down & wash away my tears
Let it save my soul and drown my fears
Let it form a new heart, for a brand new start:

A new life in You!

Where it was dark, now there is hope
Where there was guilt, now there is none
Here in my weakness I found your strength
All through the death of the Son

Yes, now
I see the light of the Son
Oh, thank you for finding me
Yes, I believe!
I’ve been touched by your Grace and your love

Yes, your Grace comes down to wash away my tears
Yes, it fills my soul and drowns my fears
Yes, it’s formed a new heart, for a brand new start:

A new life – yes!

Yes, your Grace comes down to wash away my sin
Yes, it gives me strength, new heart within
Yes, it gives a new life, a new life in the Son

A new life’s begun!

Yes, real life
Yes, yes,
I have new life in the Son
All through the death of the Son

Yes, I believe!
I’ve been freed by your Grace and your love

Yes, I believe!
I’ve been healed by your Grace and your love

Yes, Lord, a new life in You
Yes, Lord, a new life in You

[This is a parody of Immortality which I heard sung by Celine Dion on a Bee Gees album. Many people have been disappointed and hurt by people who have abandoned them – a husband, a father, a mother, etc. God’s love for us is an absolute; it’s undeserved; it’s unconditional: it doesn’t matter who I am, what I’ve done, what I haven’t done: He won’t say Goodbye. (Read Philip Yancey’s What’s so amazing about Grace?) Sometimes I get angry with God and it seems He goes away; usually I have to admit (very sheepishly) He’s giving me space to calm down from my tantrum. He hasn’t said Goodbye, and He’ll never say Goodbye. That’s His promise; that’s His nature; that’s my only hope.

Yes, this is who I am
And yet You love me still
And I must choose to live
The life that You will give
It’s Grace that keeps me going

And I will stand for You, alone, I will,
Stand firm in my faith in the great I AM
For You’re my soul’s hope

And I will follow on your path that lies ahead
I will let myself by You be led
For you’re my soul’s hope

You won’t say goodbye
You won’t say goodbye
No matter what I have done

In Your Grace I stand
I make my journey through this desert land
You keep a firm hold on my hand
Till the end

You died and rose for me
You died to make me free
Though storms may never end
Through all You are my Friend
King of Kings
My Saviour

And You won’t say goodbye
You won’t say goodbye
No matter what I may do

And I’ll follow Your path that lies ahead
I will let myself by You be led
For You’re my soul’s hope

I’m sorry, Lord, for all the times I’ve gone astray,
Hand over my heart to Your own Way
For You give me Grace to live

In Your Grace I stand
I make my journey to the Promised Land
You keep a firm hold on my hand
Till then

You won’t say goodbye
You won’t say goodbye

No matter what I may do
It’s Your Love pulls me through

You won’t say goodbye

Hos 11:8  “How can I give you up, Israel? How can I abandon you? Could I ever destroy you as I did Admah, or treat you as I did Zeboiim? My heart will not let me do it! My love for you is too strong.

C93 VS 19         [24 October 2003
[This was prompted by the song I drove all night. I first heard this song via Celine Dion, but actually it was written for Roy Orbison (who sings it in the film Paperback Hero),  although it was first sung by Cindi Lauper.

The original song tells of someone driving all night to get to the object of his/her affections. We are told that God spared no effort to redeem us and free us. We often need to cling to that (especially in the Valley) and we need to be reminded that, if God did not spare to redeem us, he won’t let us go in a hurry! I believe that  God understands the feeling of the “broken ” spirited who live in the Valley (Psalm 51:17  “My sacrifice is a humble spirit, O God; you will not reject a humble and repentant heart.”). God is more sure of our salvation than we are. My salvation doesn’t depend on how I feel, but on what God did in the person of Jesus. So in this poem Jesus puts me and my doubts in their place.]

I gave My Life to set you free;
I hung on the Cross, secured your liberty;
I gave My Life, I’d do it over again.
My love for you, it never will end ;
I’d give My Life, over again.

From the first of creation I’ve planned your Salvation;
I’ve loved you with no reservation.
Of my Love there’s no end, oh yes!

I give you Life: I’ll see you through.
Trust in Me still; that’s all I’ll ask of you.
I’ll give you life; I love you so much:
No part of your life is far from My Touch.
I’ll give you life without end.

No darkness can hide you; my Light is inside you.
With my Love so strongly I’ve tied you
To my loving Heart, oh yes!

I’ll give you Life: My Grace I will send
Through fire and storm, I’m always your Friend.
I’ll give you Life: you’re so precious to Me;
Come to My Heart and share in my victory:
My Death gives Life – abundantly.

No way is too steep, and no sea is too deep;
Though the earth shakes, nothing will ever keep
Me from loving you, oh yes!

I gave My Life to set you free
My Death for your life: that’s my guarantee!
I gave My Life, I’d do it over again.
Love everlasting seals you with my name,
And for you I’d do it again.
